The Benefits Of Home Insulation in Memphis

We are living in an extremely delicate time, both financially and environmentally, energy consumption, prices, and CO2 emissions are all rising and steps are having to be made worldwide to save both money and the world, something which people often feel clash, ‘do we save our money or the environment?’ is a question often asked, however, the fact of the matter is these 2 things can go perfectly hand in hand.

What’s that you say? Save money and save the baby polar bears? Well that’s brilliant! But how do we do it? Well a fantastic solution to save your money and do your part for the world, is to insulate your home. You may not realise it but if your home is insufficiently insulated then it will be leaking a huge amount of the heat produced from your central heating, in turn costing you shocking amounts more than necessary on your yearly heating bill.

There are several different types of Memphis insulation available for your home, here is a short list of the most common and effective forms of home insulation, including the fantastic benefits and savings they provide:

  • Cavity Wall Insulation – An estimated 800,000 homes had this type of Memphis insulation installed in their homes between 2002 and 2005, and that reportedly saved 400,000 tons of CO2, and that was a fair few years ago now, energy prices and consumption amounts are much higher, therefore meaning that insulation is even more important. Cavity walls are very prominent in post-1920’s homes, cavity walls are two layers of brick with a ‘cavity’ in the middle, a cavity which is more often than not just an empty gap with air in, a gap which accounts for as much as a whopping 33% of heat loss in some homes. The easiest way to deal with this problem is to have the gap filled, an insulation technician will visit your home and will simply inject the insulating material into your walls from the outside of your home in a process that will take only 2 to 3 hours, and leave little to no mess in your house or garden. As well as keeping the heat in your home, cavity wall insulation also creates a more even temperature throughout your home, rather than keeping the living room warm and the kitchen like the arctic and even more on top of that, it can actually help keep you cool during hot spells.
  • Loft insulation – You may think of your loft as being the dark, dingy place you go in a handful of times a year to get the Christmas tree or suitcases out, but your loft could be responsible for losing up to 25% of the heat that escapes from your home. With lost insulation, the insulating material is simply laid over the floor, between and over any visible joints, however it is still advisable to bring in professionals to carry it out to avoid potential technical difficulties.
  • Solid Wall Insulation – You could be losing up to 35% of your heat through your walls. Solid wall insulation can both save you a huge chunk of money, and drastically improve the look of the outside of your home. Solid wall insulation is probably the biggest of any insulation jobs and involves first smoothing down the walls, then fitting the insulation boards to the wall (these boards are the main part of the insulation) before an application of render, and then a final top coat to top off both a stylish and very sensible project.
